Becoming involved in this event...

1. How did you get involved in the Bottlemart 2008 Smiling for Smiddy Challenge?

My company is one of the sponsors for the event and I was encouraged to take part by a co-worker (Trevor Weisse).

2. If you knew Adam Smiddy please share how you knew him and what it means for you to ride in remembrance of Adam?

Unfortunately I didn't know Adam.

3. Please list your reasons why you will undertake this challenge?

To raise awareness about cancer and to raise some much needed funds for cancer research.

Your expectations of this event...

4. What do you expect the ride to be like, and what will you do to get through it?

I'm expecting the ride to be physically tough, having never ridden these sorts of distances before.  However, I expect the challenge to be a very rewarding and enjoyable experience.

5. What is your advice for other riders accompanying you on your journey?

To have a good time and keep a smile on your face.  When the going gets tough, think of the goals of the ride (to honour Adams memory and raise awareness and funds for cancer research).

What you bring to this event...

6. What are your 'good' attributes and how will they help you participate in the Bottlemart 2008 Smiling for Smiddy Challenge?

I have a very positive attitude and can always enjoy myself even in very difficult circumstances.

8. Are you a team person? And how do you see yourself fitting in with the group, especially when the realisation hits home that the ride is no picnic in the park?

I'm definitely a team player and have a very easy-going nature which means I should fit in pretty well with the group.  I'm already expecting the ride to be physically demanding, but think the support of other participants will really help when the going gets tough.  I'm only riding days 5 & 6 of the challenge but hope to help those that are doing the full event through lots of encouragement and support.

9. How much are you hoping to raise?

I want to be able to raise in excess of $2,300.

What your preparation consists of...

10. Will you do anything different, besides riding, to help you prepare for the ride

I plan to continue with my regular triathlon training, with additional long rides built in to help prepare for this challenge.

11. What is the longest distance you have covered over one week, and how did you handle it physically and mentally?

About 300km, which was not especially difficult.  I'm riding two-days of the challenge covering close to 400 km, so will need to increase my training to ensure I can meet the challenge.

Your supporters...

12. What would you like to pass on to your personal supporters?

A big thank-you!
