An inspiring documentary on the Bottlemart Smiling for Smiddy Challenge will screen on WIN TV Queensland this Sunday, 20 December (11.30am).
The documentary tells the story of the annual ‘journey of friends' which has raised more than $1.1 million for cancer research since 2006 in memory of Brisbane physiotherapist Adam Smiddy.
It also captures the lengths individual riders and road crew, each with their own stories of being touched by cancer, went to in order to complete this year's 1600 kilometre journey from Brisbane to Home Hill in the state's north.
The participants, from all over Australia, included people from all walks of life including:
- Australian Tour de France cycling legend Phil Anderson;
- Adam's friend and Challenge founder Mark Smoothy;
- Everyday cyclists including 67-year-old Victorian Andrew Thornton;
- First-time long distance rider Carla Martella from Perth; and
- Mackay's John ‘Butzy' Butz who riding in memory of his father, found himself riding in extraordinary circumstances that brought the meaning of the ride home to everyone.
The half-hour documentary, produced by Reflected Image, will air on WIN TV Queensland from 11.30am on Sunday 20 December, leading into the cricket coverage.
Listen out for the amazing song recorded by award-winning singer song-writer, Mishelle Bradford-Jones and Peter Koppes, from the band ‘The Church', also titled ‘Journey of Friends'. The song is the soundtrack for the documentary and is also expected be released on iTunes in the New Year.
A longer ‘director's cut' of the documentary will screen in Brisbane in early 2010.
