Feeding our riders

Cycling 200km or more each day for 8 days requires a lot of energy and stamina. During the ride each cyclist will be burning at least 6000 calories per day in addition to taking in 6-10 litres of fluids.

Though it is possible to replenish some of that while on the bike with sports drinks and muesli bars, the riders will rely on more substantial and easily digestible foods at 3 scheduled 20 minute breaks each day. During these breaks, fresh home-cooked food is the most appreciated sustenance.

If you have a flair for cooking and would like to help us out, below are some of our rider's favourite recipes* to choose from:

Almond Crisps
Banana Bread
Chocolate Hazlenut Scrolls
Date & Walnut Slice
Fruit Cake
Fudge Brownies
Macadamia and Choc Chip Biscuits
Moist Banana Cake
Muffins - Apple Bran
Muffins - Olive Feta
Muffins - Pizza
Muffins - Potato
Muffins - Sticky Date
Muffins - Tomato Basil
Muffins - Fig Honey
Nancy's Slice
No Bake Fudge Cake

You can help provision our riders by:

The charity of local communities - whether food, encouragement or donations to the Bottlemart 2008 Smiling for Smiddy Challenge - are the fuel that keeps our team inspired and focussed on the task of getting all the way to Home Hill in 8 days by bike.

Yours in appreciation
