Event objectives
- To honour the memory of a vivacious young physiotherapist and triathlete - Adam Smiddy - who contracted a rapid and aggressive form of melanoma, and passed away in 2006 at the age of 26
- To raise vital funds for research into preventions and treatments of cancer. The inaugural ride in 2006 saw three riders raise $24,136 and extensive media coverage. The target for the 2007 challenge (15-23 September) is 20+ riders covering 1,600 kilometres in just eight days to raise $100,000
- To raise the awareness of the need for skin protection in our harsh Queensland climate
- To continue to build the bike ride into a significant annual challenge featuring 100 riders netting $500,000 per year for cancer research within five years
